Concept Corillian Freighter

I've only been doing small amount's of Scratch Building for quite some time now, so I thought it was time to get back into it. So I spent some time looking through my 'Art of' Book's and came up with a nice little Concept Drawing in 'Star Wars. The Art of Episode 3, Revenge of the Sith'.
There's no Scale given so I'll just guess, so off to the Craft Shop to pick up some Sheet Styrene and various other interesting Styrene bit's.
I've also bought some Balsa as it make's a perfect Core to encase and makes the Subassemblie's nice and sturdy.
First I cut the rough shape of the Cargo Container, I can then work out the size of the ship once I've made up a few.
The edge's are then shaped ready to be Clad in Styrene.
Here I have Three size's of Container's as the artwork show's. The one on the Left is almost finished, its all covered with Styrene and all the gap's have been filled with Mr Surfacer 500. I'll sand it and reapply filler where nesessary. The one in the middle needs it's Styrene cap on plus the Triangular Detail piece. The one on the Right is just the rough shape of the smaller Containers and is ready to shape.
These Three have taken about a day to get to this point, once I have them completed, I'll use them as Masters and make up some Block Moulds for them.
Thats about it for now guys, Thanks for looking.

Molding Wheels.

Here's an easy way of making your own wheels that I saw back in the mid 70's on a BBC Programme called Model World. I've used it quite often and its a lot easier than making Latex Molds.
First you will need a Jar Lid and some Plasticine, put the Plasticine into the Jar Lid and level it off.
Next cover the Plasticine with Graphite, this is powdered Pencil Lead and is used for lubricating Locks. But we're going to use it to stop the Kit Wheel and the Cast Wheel from sticking.
Take the Kit Wheel and press into the Plasticine to half of its depth, (up to the seam running around the centre of the Tread pattern), and remove.
Next we mix the Resin or in this case the Polyurethane Plastic and pour into the Plasticine Mold. Remember to check for any bubbles and prick them out with a Cocktail Stick. Leave to set, the poly goes in clear and goes white when its cured.
Remove the Wheels and trim off the flash and wash off the Graphite. The inside of my wheel is a little rough but I'll sand that out and it'll be fine.
Sand the back of each Cast piece and glue together, fill any gaps and sand. Remember when gluing the Tread Pattern should be staggered.
Yes they are the same size, the white one looks a little bigger in the last picture so I've put it on top of the Kit wheel to show you they are the same.
The bits I've used, Graphite Powder which lasts forever and the two part Polyurethane Plastic. hope you fould this interesting and can use it sometime.

Panther Build (Overview)

Other than the Tiger there will be a Panther V in the Dio too. So here's a quick post on the building of it.
Years ago when I was about Ten I had this kit, but at that time you got a little drive motor with it and you could control it with a simple hand held remote. Looking at it now it's exactly the same but without the Motor. It is qiute a basic kit with not a lot of parts, but it does the job quite well.
Once Built up I added some simple side skirts from sheet Styrene. I also placed the Tank Barrel into the Barrel Lock as the Tank will be on a Train Flatbed Gondola.
Once painted I added a Dark Wash followed by the winter wash, again as with the Tiger I'll add Photo Etched Vent Covers.
Decals added and another thinned Winter wash followed by Rust streaks here and there. With both Tanks I want them to look like they've been out on the Battlefield for quite some time. The Rust is a little heavy and I'll Calm it down later.
Next is to paint the Rubber on the Road Wheels, a job that I hate but needs doing so I'll get on with it.

Thanks for Looking
Andy.

Tiger I Part 3

The Tiger build is just about done now, just a few little things to do.
Added the Snow to the Tracks and I'll add more to the body of the Tank when she's on the Dio.
I'll add some stowage to her once I've got to the same stage on the Panther, which has just had her Winter Wash added. I've also added a short Video to my You Tube Channel of some older Projects. Check it out if you get time and let me know what you think.

Old Projects.

As I haven't worked on the Tiger today I thought I'd show some older Projects I've built In the last year.
This is my 1/35 Vietnam Era Huey, I spent some time trying to fade the paintwork to show she's been out in the hot sun for some time.
One of my Scratch Builds, 1/32 Teemto Pagalies Pod Racer from Episode I.
The Fine Molds 1/144 Millenium Falcon, this hangs on the wall, she sits on a Scratch Built Star Destroyer Bridge section.
A small Toy Conversion, adding a few small improvments and a better Paint Job.
The Trumpeter 1/32 Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat, this was Super Detailed. Better Cockpit, Engine, Wheel Wells, Gun Bays and Flaps.
Revells 1/32 Heinkel He 111, More or less built out of the box. I only added a few little details in the Cockpit as the kit is pretty damn good in the first place.
1/35 M1025 Humvee, did the same faded paintwork effect as on the Huey.
Trumpeter 1/32 Mig 15 on Scratch Built Base.

Well thats just a few of the projects I've built, hope you like them. Back tomorrow with the latest on the Tiger and Panther.

Thanks for stopping by,
Andy.

Tiger I Part Two.

Ok, in the long run this Tiger will be on a Winter Dio with a Panther MkV and Possibly a Stug. My Idea is to place them either being loaded onto or off loaded from a Train, I want to use the Trumpeter BR86 Dampflokomotive
As I said it'll be in Winter with lots of German soldiers milling around, not quite sure of the fine details just yet. Its at this time that I find out that I should have put Travelling Tracks onto the Tiger as real Tiger Tanks where to wide for the flatbed wagons, so the Tracks where changed for narrower one's, so at the moment I have the wrong tracks on mine ! Yes I will be blogging my mistakes too, at the moment I'll leave the tracks in place and have a think about what to do.
I've added most of the detail to the main body and the turret and a quick coat of Matt Stone pulls it all together. To get her to this point has taken around a Month. In this blog I've condenced it down as like I said earlier this is in retrospect.
This photo shows the Exhaust Shields, I've shown them with a lot of rust as this area has a lot of heat and moisture so the Camo paint doesn't stay on very long defore its burnt off. They also have a small amount of Winter White Wash still on them. The rest of the Tank has been White Washed and then faded and warn, plus I've added some new and old rust to some areas.
Now we're bang up to date, this is where I am at the moment, just the fine details to pick out. I'll also add some Stowage and Equipment.
Thanks for looking,
Andy.

Tiger I Part 1

The First Project on my Blog will be a 1/35 Tamiya Mid-Production Tiger I. I'll back track a little as she's almost finished.
Now strangely the Box Art shows her with Zimmerit but the Kit doesn't have any moulded into any of the parts, so I'll have to add it myself. For this I'll use Super Fine Milliput, I'll add it to the body first then I'll move on to the Turret.
I've taken out a few spots here and there to look like wear and tear, once its dry I sanded it back a little just to take off the high spots.
One thing I have done is cut the Side Skirts into sections, They come as one large piece, but look a little to tidy for a Tank thats been in Battle for some time. I also bent up some edges and generally made them look worn. When it comes time to add these to the body I'll leave a couple off to further the damaged effect.
After two days of adding Zimmerit, this is where we are. I've drilled through the Zim on the Turret so I can add the spare Track Links and attachments.
The Turret Stowage Box was thinned in a couple of places, then I made some jagged holes to represent Shrapnel Damage.
Time to make the Track !! and it does take some time. each Link has to be sanded slightly where it was attached to the Sprue. Each finished track will have 100 links, I glue three lengths together and let them stand for around 30 minutes. This means I can bend them to shape without them coming apart.
Here I've used a couple of pairs of Tweezers to add some Sag to the Tracks.

Welcome.

Hi and Welcome to Central Industrial, this is my Build Blog for all my Projects, Big and Small. Hopefully you will find something of interest here, if you don't, comment on what you would like to see and I'll try and sort something out for you.
I specialize in 1/48 1/35 1/32 and 1/16 Armour, Aircraft and Sci-Fi Miniatures, I build from Kits, but I do like to Hyper Detail them for Accuracy. I use Update and Detail Sets made from Plastic, Resin and Photo Etch, plus I do Scratch Build some Items that are not available in Kit form.

Thanks for stopping by,
Andy.
